Established in 1966 as a modest green grocer H & H Fruiterers in Bicester, Oxfordshire with a turnover of £5K PA, Fresh Direct UK Ltd has escalated to become one of the leading and most dynamic fresh and prepared food suppliers to the food service industry in the UK. Still privately owned and employing around 1000 people, whilst maintaining its family ethos.
Sourcing from the UK when the weather permits, we also travel the world in order to find the finest and most premium fresh produce possible including limited editions and wild foods! By doing this we ensure fulfilment to every customer’s requirements. We offer six days a week Gourmet delivery service from Rungis Market, Paris, with the support of a chilled facility on site and a four man strong team, of experienced buyers.
The team also work hard investing in growers, to re-establish new and forgotten varieties including heirloom products like tomatoes, mushrooms and old and forgotten British favourites. We offer support and experience to ensure they have perfect facilities and systems in every part of their operations.
FreshGro is our own home grown initiative, working with a team of local farmers growing exclusively for us. Asparagus, potatoes, herbs and tomatoes are already being tackled, with other lines following.
Fresh Direct are continually searching for innovative solutions to meet the requirements of even the most demanding chefs, all at an excellent cost – hence introducing our new facility ‘Fresh Kitchen’ which is all about adding heat to fresh produce to give a customer a bespoke value added offering.
Our NPD Chefs work from our purpose built development kitchen – looking for new ways to benefit our customers and suppliers, working with them to share product knowledge and food development solutions.
Fresh Direct product ranges have also grown through customer demand from supplying fruit and vegetables - prepared, semi prepared and whole head form, to include a full range of dairy, ambient groceries, cooked, char- grilled vegetables, stocks and sauces, fresh cuts of meat, wet salads, a small range of frozen and drinks, plus speciality goods.
Offering a fully chilled operation, with a fleet consists of 200+ dedicated vehicles out of 5 dedicated Fresh Direct UK operations and 2 further hubs, supplying 6 days a week across the UK from our advanced facilities in Oxford, Wigan, Cambridge, London and Scotland. Orders are day one, for day two. All depots accredited to BRC A grade and work with LEAF and Red Tractor.
We currently handle over 3,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables every week and our products are represented on around 1.5 – 2 millions plate a day!
